Side work, one chip at a time
Stop when the beam is true
A weekly hour limit is the line where you stop hewing rest away. Review it once a month.
It is easy to keep taking chips of evening until nothing is left for sleep.
A hard line
- Set a weekly maximum for side work while a calm week is in front of you.
- When a new request would pass that line, offer a later date instead.
- Once a month, compare hours worked with the limit and the real hourly figures.
Stopping is part of the work. A week that still has rest holds longer than one hewn to a sliver.
